Hey guys and gals,

I gotta workstation that suddenly hasn't a cdrom in explorer. I started
with the usual, even replaced drive and cables before I found it to be error
code 32 (nice)

so, all the stuff i turn up on error 32 is related to uninstalling burning
software. I was hoping someone here would be able to help me out.

Thanks,

Mo

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeel...

i actually found out what it was, and resolved it.

My good friend the registry.

I changed the service start type.

under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services

Each Driver and its service is listed.

I changed the startup type DWORD to 2

for automatic startup

0x0 Boot
0x1 System
0x2 Automatic
0x3 Manual
0x4 Disabled

To be safe, i changed the same value in the other control sets as well. I had controlset001 and controlset002

they can be "moved" into the current control set on boot. or something like that heh.

hope this helps someone out there.

thanks for you reply

this problem can also occur with invalid entries in the "upperfilters" or "lowerfilters" area of the registry. If you search for each term, and notice garbage characters as a value for either or both, delete the invalid entry, and the drive should reappear.
