cd read write software i can not find it on my new computer

last year i bought a ibm aptiva from chandlers nsw australia and unable to copy cd's (this is one of the amin reasons for purchasing this machine) when i bought the machine i was told it had a cd read write but i am unable to find the correlating software, pleade help me , this aptiva is the thin blue model not the thicker tower that is out now
