hey, I have a 48-32-32 CD-R installed along with a DVD-rom. I use the DVD to read all my cds, but recently, my CD-r hasnt been reconiizing that there are any cds in it, and the indicator light on the front of unit continously flashes. I try to burn a cd and it says place an empty cd in the drive, i've changed cd's, i've even tried to use other types of cd-r's but none of that has worked...nor has trying to read information off any cd in my cd-r drive, including music cds.
I've also tried uninstalling my driver and installing a new one for it, that didnt work, also i've tried completly disconnecting my cd-r drive and then hooking it back up, but that to failed to help me...So any help that anyone could give would be greatly appreciated. thankx

You could try a head cleaner but this fast 48X writer should still be in warranty and sounds like it needs swopping.
You may just be wise to hook it up to another machine, if it still doesn't read you can return it with confidence knowing that it is definately faulty. Martin Replying helps further our knowledge, without comment leaves us wondering.

Have you recently upgraded your OS to for example Windows XP? And have you installed easy cd creator? If so then get a software upgrade at Had the same problem a few weeks ago. The upgrade solved it.

Best bet is to boot to a floppy disc with CDROM support. Can you read a CD there? If so, then the problem is software/drivers. If not, the replace the drive! Mudskipper

Definitely try mudskipper's advice. Win98 boot disks work great.

However, I also noticed that you mentioned this:
I've also tried uninstalling my driver and installing a new one for it, that didnt work

OK, we need to take a closer look here. When you removed the driver for it, the next step should be to reboot. You SHOULD NOT install the driver manually. During the reboot, Windows will detect the drive automatically and pull the driver from the firmware (firmware is built-in to the CD burner so that you don't have to fuss with drivers).

If that still doesn't work, my bet is that mudskipper's test won't either. Hopefully it's didn't just die on you!
