Hi Guys,

My Customer wants to use an existing small CD Player to play his Music on Hold. Can I use it and connect it to the 3mm MOH Port on the back of the 3300 Cxi. I've read a few bits and pieces which state I need to use an E&M Trunk?

Any Ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

Steve

Two potential issues.

Most importantly, legality. Even though your customer may go out and purchase a CD or a library of CDs, that music cannot legally be used for MOH without the customer first purchasing a performance/replay license from ASCAP, BMI and SESAC (all 3). By the same token said customer cannot legally connect a radio to the MOH port. He runs into the exact same problem. Even tho the music may have been licensed for public broadcast over a radio station, that license does not cover rebroadcast by a third party or extend to a third party. Total license costs (annually) will be approx. $5,700.

The second issue involves line levels and impedance matching. I believe the line input impedance on the MOH port is approximately 600 ohms, to he may need an impedance matching transformer. Needed or not, I'd still recommend it. These are relatively inexpensive, about $20 or so.

Address the legal problem first. The lawsuit is expensive if you get caught.

Optionally, subscribe to a commercially licensed professional music service such as MUZAK. That music IS licensed for rebroadcast. (XM does not qualify, though I believe their commercial service "XM For Business" does qualify.) - XM For Business is available from DirecTV on the 119-West satellite on channels 9560 thru 9574, inclusive.

In answer to your question, yes, you CAN connect to the CXi. The help files in the CXi should help you in programming.

I never connect MOH for the customer. I will program the port on the back of the system and I may provide a cable off the system. I always advise my customers of the above provided by MIMB.

You can however, find free music files that can be converted to the proper format to use as embedded MOH. Look in the FAQs section on this forum for "how to" instructions.

Hi,

Thanks for your replies, my Customer does have royalty free music cd's to play, I just needed to know whether I'd encounter any problems with one of these small CD Players, the Customer is being a little difficult at the minute and is reluctant to buy any more kit as the salesperson advised him that his existing MOH CD Player would work fine on the 3300. At the minute its working on some type of Samsung Switch.

For what it's worth, I have never had any kind of issue with any radio or CD player put on a Mitel 3300. Excluding radio station reception in a server closet or a CD player not set to repeat of course.

Try it. If it doesn't work, then suggest something better (more$$$$).
