I'm not sure if this is a hardware or OS question.I haven't gotten a response under hardware, so I'll try here as well. I tried to view a CD I had burned on a PC, that the PC could not then read. My PC at work had no problem at all with it, but my iMac failed to show the CD was there. Without the CD icon on my desktop, I couldn't even find a way to eject it till I restarted the computer. Is there a default way of ejecting CDs in the iMac G5? I don't see a paper-clip hole, and cmd+E didn't do anything. I could hear the CD drive functioning when I put the CD in, and when I had it restart, it asked if I wanted to eject the CD, so why didn't it show up anywhere and allow me to access it?

Try putting any other cd, like your software install cd, in the mac. If that mounts, the machine's fine and the cd you burned is not.

If you put anything on it like an auto-launch that's windows specific, you'll have problems. Check your creator software on the PC to make sure you're not putting in anything that's Windows specific.

To eject when nothing works, go to Restart and hold down the mouse button (left if 2 button) until it pops out.

Yes, the problem is the CD, not the iMac, but the question is: Isn't there some way to eject a CD that doesn't mount without restarting the computer?

It's a VERY bad idea to try and manually (paper clip trick) a CD while the machine is running. If the cd is spinning and reading (even if you can't see it on the desktop), you can cause real damage to the cd drive as well as the desktop database.

Look at your printed manual to see if/where the paperclip hole is. Sometimes they're really hard ot find - as on my g4 behind the drop down door. If you don;t have the manual go here:

On the G4s you can hold down F12 and it will eject the CD. It will most likely work on the G5s too.
