I use XP pro. My Samsung 40-12-40 CDR-W won't work reliably in DMA mode (only PIO). I get blue screens (that seem to refer to memory but my RAM is fine - I've tried other RAM) or reboots or sometimes when I try to copy data from a CD to HDD it comes up bad crc on the CD (no prob in PIO) or it copies then it randomly says that the file is corrupt when I try to run it (once again no prob in PIO). I've cleanly installed XP, tried another IDE cable, looked at bios options ( BIOS is the latest ver for PC and CDRW firmware current) etc all to no avail. I would like to use DMA as PIO is extremely slow in comparison. Has anybody else here had this problem or does anybody have any ideas as to what I could try next?

is cdrw on ide1 or 2? Is there anything else on ide channel with CDRW? You could be having speed conflict with diff devices. If paired with something else, try configuring CDRW on channel by itself.

The CDR-W is the only device on the secondary IDE channel.
