Looking for advice. Customer has 98FE,compaq CD SMaster, Memorex burner CD SSlave. Everything OK until a crashed USB ZIP install. Now can't get either CD to read. If it boots up with a CD installed in either I get BSOD. When I try to read from either I get BSOD.
Because of the amount of stuff on the system I'm resitant to do a complete restore yet overlay reinstall doesn't seem to help.
I'm to the point of removing the non-burner to eliminate conflicts but am soliciting other solutions. Ed Fair

Try removing the USB Zip installation from safe mode and remove the CD devices, then reboot and let Windows recognize them again. While you're there check the disk controller and make sure it's correct. If there's any uncertainty, delete that as well and have it recognized again by Windows.

If you can't get that USB Zip install removed, try installing it again, then uninstalling afterwards.

Zip was gone from mangler, but had stuff installed in the registry as a SCSI device. Wiped it out and crashed explorer.
Customer decided that it was getting progressively worse and was time to clean house. Machine in restore now and will allow a bunch of fragmented junk to be removed. Gave it a 4hour shot at saving stuff, but it was not to be.
Thanks Ed Fair
