I've tried copying a VCD using X-cdroast but xine doesn't recognize it as a VCD. The same cd copied using Nero under Window$ works fine! What gives?

Other than using readcd/cdrecord and any other front-end to them, are there any other programs that can create a "perfect" copy?

Try creating an ISO of it, then burning it. Read rute.sf.net, there's a section in there on using dd.

I tried your suggestion, using dd if=/dev/sg0 of=/tmp/disc01.iso and burining it to disc with cdrecord but it yields the same reuslts as with readcd; xine and my VCD player still don't recognize it as a VCD. Do I need to specify any other parameters for dd or cdrecord for that matter?

Just throwing out ideas but, did you "over-burn" the original cd? (Maybe "over-burn" is not the right term for it.)

I messed around with VCDEasy and making vcd's a while back and I remember that there's a way to burn a cd right up to the edge so you can squeeze some extra space out of it. Did you do this?

If you did, it could have an effect on making a copy.

This is actualy a product demo CD from the company that I work for. The demo takes up slighly more than 500MB so there is no need for me or the guy who made the original to over-burn.

I found a VCD compilation tool called VCDImager, however it doesn't seem to like the MPEG stream from the original VCD.

VCD Tools is similar to VCDImager. Will let you know if it works. Thanks!
