Problems...

Have a single CD-RW/DVD-ROM.

The computer sees it as such, but when you put a CD in the Drive to burn, it reverts to seeing the drive only as a CD-ROM.

I've tried to burn within ROXIO but it only gets to about 98%, then the drive spits out the CD. And says the following error..

E800418ac: Fixation Error.

The machine is running XP PRO, and still it won't allow me to "Send" files to the drive for burning.. ( Via the built in XP burning software.)

Any ideas?.

Thanks in advance for all replies.

Is trhe drive definitely ok? (eg, have you tried it in another machine)?

Before you replace it, you should try wolluf's suggestion of using it in another PC first. You want to rule out the possibility that it's a Windows issue, because if it is, replacing the drive likely won't help.

If another PC isn't an option and you have a spare hard drive, install Windows fresh on that and see if the burner still has problems. Yet another option is to create another partition on your existing drive and install a separate copy of Windows there.
