hey all
i have to upgrade the OS on a CCR to Server 2008 and install sql 2008 but doing so will mean no stats for as long as it takes, which as you know ccr can be a full day of messing around. i have a demo system installed in my office and to keep stats running I was thinking of doing the following:
export database from live site,
import database into my site
connect my ccr to customer pbx to continue collecting data
during this stage I can work with the server upgrading etc.
when completed export database from my site
import database on customer site

anyone see any "that won't work" problems with this?

I think you better backup the SQL running on SQL 2005
Then try to import it to a test SQL 2005 and upgrade this one to SQL 2008
If this works then upgrade it at the customer.
Than you backup it up again and then install the Server 2008 with SQL 2008.
I think you must have your database on 2008 before you back it up.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

both sites are sql 2008 but I am upgrading to the paid version sql (not enough space). also putting on more ram, hence server 2008 64bit.
but in theory, looks good?

Make sure you do your homework on the SQL upgrade. A couple of wrong clicks and you will end up with a side-by-side installation rather than an upgrade.

There is a matrix for SQLsomewhere as to which versions can be upgraded to what (free and full).

SQL changes are the kind of things I dread. All looks good in practice. One of our Engineers is quite good with it, so i always turn to him first!
