Ok, I am very much stumped. I have a boss who comes from a Telecom background/world and really knows nothing about networks. Not a bad boss, I am just trying to educate him. He does not understand what a CCNP knows or is capable of doing. I've perused through CCO trying to locate a consise (read short) informative description of the differences between the CCNA, CCNP and the CCIE certifications. In his mind the CCNA is the highest as it has the letter 'A' in the title. Kinda frustrating. Other than the testing page which kind of explains what to expect on that particular exam, I've not found anything. I have even thought about sending him the official Cisco email of my certs but that is not very informative to the uninitiated.

Any ideas out there on where to find or look?

CCNP, CISSP in progress...

From Cisco's own website:

The CCNP certification (Cisco Certified Network Professional) indicates advanced or journeyman knowledge of networks. With a CCNP, a network professional can install, configure, and troubleshoot local and wide area networks for enterprise organizations with networks from 100 to more than 500 nodes. The content emphasizes topics such as security, converged networks, quality of service (QoS), virtual private networks (VPN) and broadband technologies.

While I hold a CCNP, etc. I rarely do most of the things described above, since I deal with system administration and security on a daily basis, along with network performance.

dogbert2,

Yeah I saw that part of the site but to the non-technical type it really doesnt mean much. I was hoping for a fairly consise format, almost a job description of a CCNP. Well, it looks like I'll just have to gin one up using both CCO and the CCNP books.

Thanks for looking.

CCNP, CISSP in progress...

Well, that can vary depending on the IT shop in question. I hold a CCNP/DP, etc. However, very little of my actual work day pertains directly to using those skills, since I usually wind up doing security, system administration, etc.

If you work in a Network Operations Center, you might be expected to do quite a bit more with your CCNP (troubleshooting, routing issues, QoS/Traffic shaping, etc), but as I said, it all depends on the environment that you work in.
