Hello,

I have passed the "old" CCNP switching test BCMSN 640-604.
I try to pass the "old" CCNP routing test BSCI 640-901 in the next two or three weeks.

When I finish my CCNP certification after august/september 2003, are these two tests still valid ?

Axel
CCNA, CCDA

Your CCNP will be valid for 3 years after you take the last exam, doesn't matter if it's the old one or the new one.

Ok, the certification CCNP is valid for three years.
But, is a single passed old test (BCMSN 640-604 or BSCI 640-901) valid after the new tests are available ?

Yes, if you have passed it. I will be taking the BCMSN on 05/27, and if I pass, it'll count towards my CCNP even after it's retired in August. As soon as I pass switching, I'll register for routing, cause that's really the exam you need to get out of the way, and it's easier to take the older exam than the newer.

Congrats!!

How was the Switching Exam? I'm goingto be taking it in hte next two weeks... was there anything that you hadn't prepared for or caught you off guard that I should study for? I don't want exact questions, just general topics.

Thanks,

Burke

Two things to focus on (at least for me) MLS and CGMP and IGMP Snooping, other than that, it was ok

I passed CCNP switching yesterday it was OK
Focus on IGMP, CGMP and MLS (hardest parts of exam)

I just passed the 640-604 (Switching) with a score of 877 (776 is the minimum score). The exam was HEAVY on CGMP, IGMP, MLS, Multicasting, and product selection. There were a few questions that were gimmies, but overall, a fair exam if you prepared well. There are questions on HSRP, STP, VLANS/Trunking, and make sure you know how to do Multicast
IP to MAC address translation.

I used the Cisco Press BCMSN book along with Boson 640-604 exam series. Make sure you pay attention to product placement at the Access, Distribution, and Core layers (which product goes where).
