Hi,

I'm new to all this, & am currently working in a different field. I want to move into the Cisco field, though. I've had a look at a number of courses online & can't make my mind up.

First of all, which course is more likely to be the future? CCNP or CCVP? There seem to be less CCVP courses available, so it figures that there are less people doing it. You'd think, though, that in the long run, it would be in more demand.

The next thing I can't decide is where best to study it. I think distance learning is probably best for me, as I'm working full-time & can't really afford the equivalent boot camps. So far, the best I've found is skillstrain. Does anyone have any ideas, though?

The First thing you need to be aware of is that before you get CCNP or CCVP is that you need to do your CCNA first. CCNA is a pre-requisite to doing any "P" level courses.

After CCNA I would personally reccomend CCNP, CCNP is like the core of the Cisco world, CCVP is a more specilized cert and as you said there is a lot less material avaialable for it. CCVP is still in its inphancy so theres not a lot of material out there.

Study wise, boot camps- These are usefull as a revision to study you have already done, No bootcamp can make you go from zero to hero in 14 days! and if they can they do it by giving you Dumps (cheats) which means your Cert wont be worth its Salt and you will join the world of paper certs! it de-values the Cert and the people who have earned it through hard work.

My advice for study is begin with the cisco press books, these are comprehensive and contain practice question etc. Then depending on your budget go for a CBT such as Learnkey or CBT nuggets!. I havent heard of skillstrain myself but Im sure theres plenty of OP's on here who have.
