I am starting to study for my CCNP (Wanted to wait for the new series since I cound not get everything done before the change. I will be sitting a bootcamp next year for CCNP). I want to get as much hands on as possible before the class and was wondering what type of Lab Equipment I should look at getting. (Would 2 2501 routers and a 1900 switch be enough?)

Thanks for any help.

while 3 x 2501 and a 1924 switch will suffice for the Routing Exam (CCNP), it won't be enuf to get through Remote Access, or Switching (dunno about support). Just my 2 cents worth.

I have been looking on ebay at some of the routers and stuff and found one that has 1 2501, 2502, 2515, and 2521 routers included. THe 2521 has ISDN and extra serial ports that can be used for Fram Relay testing. WOuld this measure up?

I also found another one that has 2 2501, 1 2504, 1 2521, and 2 2515 routers.

I really want to do the CCNP and get as much hands on as possible so that I know my stuff before I go to class and take the tests on this.

Thanks.

The list i have always gone by is this

3 x 2501 routers (2 serial and 1 aui ethernet)
1 x 2520 4 port serial for frame relay switch simulation
1 x 2511 accesss server with 2 octal cables (terminal server)
1 x 2514 2 ethernet 2 serial
2 x 2503 1 Bri and 2 Serial (ISDN routers)
1 x ISDN Simulator (you can use back to back modems with either a POTS simulator , 100 bucks, or an ISDN simulator (300-1000)
1 x 1900 series switch or two their cheap

For ccie

You will need in addition

2 x 3550 Series Catalyst Switches
2 x 2600 series with VOIP etc

and whatever else you can come up to simulate all the stuff they will through at you

Good luck

You should be able to fine all the

All the 2500 series besides the 2511 should cost around 100 each the 2511 is around 200. i wouldn't pay more. then jack all the mem and flash to 16/16 and upgrade the IOS to at least 12.2. You can find everything on EBAY.

Lui is right on track. In order to get a good grasp on routing, you will need at least 5-7 routers, One with the abililty to be a frame relay switch, two with the ability to do ISDN.

one or two Cat 5000 to complete the Ethertrunk an d ISL trunking.

If you go to the Vconsoe web site, they have a ISND NIC, probally the cheapest route.

Are any of you selling your test equipment? It'd be easier then buying it all individually. I am going for my ccie in a few months. So I could wait until you guys were done with your gear.

Seems like Lu and the rest are saying the equipment will cost $3000+ ??

While that is "recommended", what is the minimum? And which "current" routers would be required...

Haven't started buying the books yet... trying to decide if I can afford a CCNP...

I think the mim you need is.

Cisco Press Books $200

5 2500s at $80 a pop = $400

2 1900 at $100 a pop = $200

Total $800

or find someone in your area and convince them to start a study group. than you only need care far and time.
