Yes it's true.. I finished it today. And I have to say that while the Support exam is not as difficult as others, the questions are the asolute worst when it comes to clarity relative to what they are asking. I know I missed a few just because I could not make heads or tails of what the heck they were asking.

For the record,

A single ATM encapsulation question

several on Appletalk encapsulations, routing and mapping to the OSI model

quite a few on IPX and quite a few on ISDN. Know your ISDN debug commands and how they map over to the ISDN model. Know the common CONNECT, ACK etc messages and who(NT1 etc) talks to who and when during a call setup and teardown.

A couple of Frame relay, not nearly as many as I would have throught.

A couple of troubleshooting procedure questions and a few of Ciscoworks and such.

And above, when you pass, go out a have a cold one ;-)

MikeS,

Congratulations to a very deserving network professional! Have a virtual cold one on me while you're at it.

That's a great thing to hear, I'm taking the 640-503
at 11:00am on June 4th (i've been studying like a fiend,
EIGRP, BGP, OSPF, VLSM, Summarization, etc)...I hope I
pass it (been practicing on the boson tests (average is
about 82-94% depending on which exam I take). :)

I used a few resources. I have my rental lab so the hardware was covered. I used practice questions from CCXX which are a bargin at the price they charge. Pretty decent quality. I also used Transcenders and found that my percentages on the practice matched pretty well to the actual test. In other words, if I scored 88% on Troubleshooting, then the actual test would normally come in plus or minus a couple of points.

Books were Cisco Press, labs from Semesters 5/6 and a whole lot of reading on TAC. I found a switching lab that someone had written up on the net but it has some errors I'm correcting before I make a tutorial on my site with it. Yes, I got permission first.

Scott- tonight it's a Goose Island Ale.. imported from Chicago to LA :)

Congratulations!!! best of luck!!! I only recommend sticking with non-fattening beverages!!! "cold ones" can be habit-forming--especially in our profession!!!

It's great to see hard work pay off.... :-D Setnaffa is an MCSE-4.0 (working on W2K) with a few other certs, too...

I failed the CCNP Switching (640-604) on Friday. Got 729 and 776 was the pass mark. Used the Self Test from SeltTestSoftware.com for practice. Though I practiced for more than 2 weeks, did not find it that helpful.

Can someone suggest a better learning method for passing Switching test? I have little hands on with Catalyst boxes.
I did poorly in CGMP, FastEtherchannel, Multicast, Trunking. Any suggestions so that I can clear in next attempt?

Trunking is hands on.. I would strongly suggest you rent time on a rack if you do not have access to the equipment. You can possibly expect to do well on a test without some hands on. It's like trying to fly with only simulator experience. You might make it but more then likely you will crash unless you are one of the gift few ;-)

Multicast is memorization as is CGMP. Etherchannel is best with practice as is trunking. You need to know both IOS and SET based switches. So it's practice on something like a Cat5K and a 2900. There are others but that is the most common nowdays.

I have a free tutorial on my site for the 2900. The Cat tutorial is not completed yet.

I'm gonna schedule the 505 BCRAN soon, probably not as bad as I think it is going to be, most say that there is one simulation "q" on the exam.
