I will be wrapping up the CCNA studies soon and moving on.. Wanted to get some advice on the next level.. I am thinking that it would be wise to pursue the CCNP next to lay the foundation for CCSP but was wondering if you guys think it to be feasible to just jump right in to the CCSP??

Thanks guys!

I think it all depends on what you want to do. Are you looking at getting more into a firewall/security job? Then CCSP is probably the way to go.

More routing/switching...go with CCNP.

I jumped to CCNP, now working on CCIP. But I'm more in a routing/switching environment. Went with CCIP as a next step mainly because of more on the QoS and BGP before trying my fate at the R/S written.

Just my $.02

Thanks.. You don't think that CCNP is a prerequisite to the CCSP???

Not necessarily---it's just a different direction. If your mind is geared toward just advanced routing and switching, then CCNP is for you. If you have a natural fascination and inclination toward the security side of things, then CCSP is your thang.

maczen,

I will echo what I have said before - when I was at Cisco Networkers in San Diego several years back, I did the security tract and all the Cisco Security CCIEs kept stressing that in order to secure a network - you need to know as much as possible about networking.

When asked about Security + they felt people doing this should be at least a CCNA but felt the higher the level of security - the more the person should know about networking in general. All of them were R & S CCIEs as well as Security CCIEs, they all had been CCNPs.

I think you have to look at the material and then ask yourself if having more of a routing and switching foundation will help you understand the objectives of CCSP.

Just some thoughts!

I found that CCSP can teach you all about advanced routing and switching, especially with VPN stuff. I am a CCNP, not a CCSP---thought about it, and still am, but the time thing is not there...kids...work...I want my mommy...lol

Burt,

When I was in San Diego, the CCSP had just come out - that is why the security tract was filled - everyone wanted to know about it.

I understand the time issue - had some thyroid trouble in Feb. (missed 5 weeks of work and Tek-Tips :)) as well as I am finishing my BS in Management Technology and hope to start my masters by Jan. .......... too much to do , just not enough time :)

Just finished the CCVP myself and looking at the CCNP tract... After that I have seriously thought about the Security arena just for grins since it's something I do lack in... Over board?
