Anyone taken BSCI lately? Just curious how much IS-IS is in it. Just finished reading the chapter on fundamentals of IS-IS, and am a bit confused (plan on reading it another time or two). But I had read somewhere out there that IS-IS is being covered less and less on the tests. Can anyonee confirm? Its not that I'm not going to continue studying IS-IS, but I don't want to trade OSPF/EIGRP information for IS-IS.

Currently Working off the Ciscopress book by Clare Gough. I have the Ciscopress book by Catherine Paquet and Diane Teare just waiting for me, as well as the BSCI Exam Cram somewhere in route to me.

Thanks

Hi,

Took the exam a couple of months back. I would suggest you know the IS-IS mechanics as I did have some questions, but must admit my exam was more on BGP / OSPF and EIGRP, but yours could be different, In Short I would say know all 4 Routing Protocols inside and out.

I took the test yesterday. It was hard. It was all about EIGRP stub, IPV6, RIP V1, RIP V2, ISIS, just not enough time. I used sybex book. I don’t think it was a good idea.
good luck

Thanks. I've been reading some other posts that say the same thing. Bottom line, is its a hard test. I'm trying to get my hands on as much info as I can get. Fortuneatly the company is sending me to Cisco Networkers so I'm going to get a free try at the test out there and at least have an idea what I'm going to need to know. But still want to try and have a sporting chance at passing.

I attempted the exam last week and it's very hard. The majority of the questions were regarding EIGRP / BGP and I did have quite a few IS-IS questions. I would say you have to know IS-IS pretty good, and also know how it operates with the level-1/2 setup. The exam also asked about route maps, distribute lists, filter lists..... not enough time. I had 10 mins left and 22 questions... I have to retake it. :(

I flunked this test on the first try. The cisco book is horribly written, but there are questions on the exam that the cisco book explained and the sybex book breezed over. Knowing that book finally got me through it, though I would recommend reading the sybex first as it explained the basics in a more understandable manner. I'm taking the BCRAN next week. Man, I swear it seems harder than the BSCI!

IS-IS has it's own layer 2 addressing - you'll need to know the format of the nsap & what it means. That's what I remember.

The BSCI is a hard test. Your only hope is to know the stuff cold - if you have to think about your answer, you'll run out of time. But, READ THE QUESTION - they try to fool you into picking the wrong answer. When it doubt, pick the least obsurd answer.

Well, I just walked out from failing the exam for the first time. Got hit up on some things that I wasn't fully expecting. IPv6 tunneling. Had a few questions on it. Sims were good, farily confident I got through them ok. They were exactly what I anticipated. But really feel I got nailed on BGP and ISIS.

My scores were pretty balanced across the board, so I don't feel too bad, not really any one specific area to work on more than the rest. Where I was starting to run into trouble with my studying is in practice labs. The routers I had wouldn't start the ISIS processes so I didn't get to run through it as much as I'd hope.

Oh well, back to the books. Thanks for all the advice....test did match very close to what everyone had prepared me for. It is definitely not a test to take lightly.
