Has anyone taken this lately? Just wondering how much on ACS, if any. Or someone point me to one of those exam objective pages (I suck at Google)...please?

I really don't like it now that you have to have an account on the CLN to see any of the exam outlines.

Looks more and more like we need Billy around for some of these questions.

Hi truB!

ACS won't be a topic to worry about. The AAA stuff is done with local credentials on the router for the CCNA-Security. From Cisco Learning Network:

"Implement AAA on Cisco routers using local router database and external ACS

*

Explain the functions and importance of AAA
*

Describe the features of TACACS+ and RADIUS AAA protocols
*

Configure AAA authentication
*

Configure AAA authorization
*

Configure AAA accounting"

Mostly be aware of the theory of TACACS+ and RADIUS and be able to set up aaa on a router without accidently locking yourself out. (reload in 5 is a good thing to implement before you do aaa new-model and forget to place your local database and define methods for the VTY and CON line...NOT that I'VE EVER locked myself out of a box with aaa ;)) Or you can schedule a kron job to reload the box or use embedded event manager...but reload in 5 is easier!

For the part that refers to the ACS, just know what command(s) are necessary to tell the router how to contact the server (host and key) since it's all pretend.

This is very similar to some of the labs I've done for my CCIE R&S where the actual servers don't exist but I have to set up the routers/switches as if the servers existed (WCCP, CNS, etc.) Mostly just typing exercises...

HTH

OK---but you cannot set up accounting without a TACAS+...

But thanks. Have a star.

Burt,

Billy has a bunch of stuff up at CLN under his BHaines account, just search for BHaines and click on his name in any of his posts to go to his profile - then look under his docs!

He wrote a whole paper on the CCNA Security cert! I was just up there showing one of my friends! This should be the link -

Last I talked to Billy, he should be back from his "world cruise" in December :) he is off protecting our freedom and the American way!!!!

Hope this helps!

I am 100% about AAA inside and out, and pretty decent already with ACS. That obstacle is down.

I am also good with locking down the router, IPSEC, endpoint security, switch security---just more reading on encryption algorythms and symmetric vs. assymmetric, etc.

I think I am good. The tests on Cisco Learning Network are too easy, and I am not using that as a guideline. I have the test scheduled for next Wed (10/14) for 9AM. Anyone can ask me a question if they want---I think I know this stuff like the back of my hand (most). The one thing I am a bit worried about is syntax and order of things in the sims...

Wish me luck! Will probably post right before the exam after I puke...lol

The $250 price tag is what makes me puke! I have a voucher for attending Global Knowledge 5 day course on IINS---that helped a LOT! That and Carl Timm/Todd Lammle books, Cisco Press books, and a few years of reading and practice on live equipment here and there, including a lot of SDM (yuck)...

Billy said that it was not THAT hard (not like the CCNA, but I took it right when they split it), but I will still need luck;)

I also have to recert for NP this year...eeek! Which is the easiest, and what book is the best?

I'd say either QoS or ONT. Grab the QoS Exam Cert guide by Wendell Odom. By far I thought they were the easiest test I've taken so far, but had a lot of QoS practice to back it all up.

The Zone Based Firewall is based off of class maps, under policy maps, placed on zone pairs. That would just mean more practice. So the QoS would renew my NP then?

you don't need luck. Will hear from the latest CCNA Security tomorrow.

I am the latest now. Passed. The exam was a lot easier than I thought. I think that is the extent I am allowed to say...
