Hi All,

Im looking to try to set up and AAA on a cisco router for studying and practice for my CCNA security exam. I need to configure a Radius Server for Authentication. Can anyone please point me the right direction about which software I should use to configure a radius server. I have done a little reading around and found that this can be confiured on a Windows 2003 server, is this general used on production networks? if not what software is general used for Radius? Im looking to implement the setup on a production network once I understand the process and passed the exam :)

Many Thanks

If you can afford it go with ACS server and run the TACACS+ protocol as opposed to RADIUS. If you can't afford ACS then yes go with IAS or NPS (if you're running 2008 server).

I hate all Uppercase... I don't want my groups to seem angry at me all the time! =)

Thanks for the reply.

Just to get the theory down, if I was to install IAS or NPS, when a user whats to connect to the router either internal for web access or externally for remote configuration or VPN then the router passes the request to the Radius server, I take it that this request is then checked with Active Directory to make sure that there is an user listed and then the request is accepted?

So does the windows server need to be a Domain Controller?/

Thanks in advance.
