The Bryant Advantage has a new CCNA book coming out this Halloween. You can buy the book now and have access to the first five chapters and get the rest free on the 31st. This is one of the few tools that I used for CCNA R&S that I would recommend. Chris Bryant does a good job of simplifying the information. The book comes in two forms, either eBook (which can be printed) or hardcopy in a 3 ring binder.. It's kind of expensive but I would recommend it based on the one I purchased for regular CCNA. I am debating between the two. I have to ask him if I get a discount for being a return customer. Will let you guys know!

eBook = $47
Hard Copy = $77

Unfortunately, no discount for return customers... Here was the response from Chris Bryant.

"Hi Billy!

The CCNA Security Study Package is already discounted at $47 and $77 , respectively - I can't offer any further discounts.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++"

I would still recommend this package as study material.. I am a very huge advocate of both this as well as the videos in addition to CiscoPress and Lammle.. In my opinion, if you go with any combination of CiscoPress and these study aids then you should be good to go!

I got his last package off of the bay...good stuff

Billy,

WOW, $47 for an electronic book and he says it is already discounted - and YOU ARE A RETURNING CUSTOMER!!!

Is it that much better then the Sybex CCNA Study Guide by Todd Lammel that runs $30 for the printed copy that COMES WITH the electronic copy on the CD!!!

More power to Chris if he can get the $$$$$$

I do agree on the CBT Nuggets - they cost a lot but they are very well done and if you look at the cost of a class, which this basicly is on DVD - the price is not bad!!!

Currently CBTNuggets.com does not have a CCNA Security video although they DO have CCNA Voice! There are 12 security related videos sets but most of these are CCSP related! Perhaps someone who is knowledgeable could compare these videos to the CCNA Security Blueprints and determine which videos would directly relate to the CCNA Sec exam if any!

To date there is no CCNA Voice, Security or Wireless available from Lammle however, they are in work as can be seen in the posts below this blog post...

QUESTION:
"Hello Mr. Lammle,

Any chance you will be writing a study guide for CCNA security?

BTW, I just passed the 640-802 exam thanks to your CCNA study exam.

Cheers"

ANSWER FROM Todd Lammle:
"Hello, Santino, thanks for posting.

I am working on the CCNA Wireless book. This new Wireless test is pretty tough!

The CCNA Security and CCNA Voice books will be started towards the end of the year. I have two books I need to finish first!!

Congratulations on your CCNA!!
Cheers!
Todd Lammle"

So it looks like the Bryant Advantage beat everyone to the punch as far as supplemental CCNA Security material goes.. I highly recommend a second study aid as you gain two perspectives on a subject.. Sure wish there were a CBT for CCNA Security available though!

Lastly, the CiscoPress material is a must have for ANY exam in my opinion. Here is a list of CCNA Concentration material available from CiscoPress! Sadly, no CBT!!! Wireless will be a good avenue to pursue in about six months or so though as everyone is beginning to catch up with the certification.. Lammle, CiscoPress etc...

Hope this helps!!!

Billy,

Good post as usual!!!! I missed that it was for the CCNA Security exam.

You are right that you MUST start your study material with a Cisco Press book - I always find that the Cisco Press books cover the subject in much greater detail - so they are great for the exam as well as being ready for a job!

Thanks for the update from Todd Lammle!!

No problemo CiscoG!
I think I may actually try to determine which CBTNuggets are relevant to the CCNA Security as opposed to paying $77 for a binder... If I pay a couple of hundred dollars for Video then I am only really spending $120 more and gaining the video instruction! I will have to email CBTNuggets and get back with you guys! Also, I will try to discern a date for an actual CCNA Security video release...

I shot this email to support team!

"I am studying for the CCNA Security. I realize that you have a CBT for the CCNA Voice but not the Security as of yet. I also notice that there are some 14 different Security related CBT's. My questions are:

1. Are there any CBT's that you currently offer that directly adhere to the current CCNA Security blueprint? In other words, do you recommend any of your current training videos for CCNA Security study?

2. Do you have a release date for the CCNA Security CBT and who will be authoring this particular CBT? Jeremy Ciaora?

Thanks in advance."

Once again, will post any correspondence in order to assist with everyone's study guide planning/purchasing for CCNA Security!!!

Billy,

I have not looked at the blueprint for CCNA Security but I would bet that the CBT Nuggets for CCSP would be good - over-kill but good and you would not only get the CCNA Security but would be well on your way to CCSP!!!

I wouldn't pay the extra $30 - at least not before checking with Kinkos or Office Depot for printing cost, binders are about $2.

Thanks CiscoG,
Unfortunately, I am not so certain that printing is an option in that regard. The last eBook that I purchased from the Bryant Advantage did not allow for easy/mass printing. I ended up with a heap of material that was out of order! I would recommend buying the binder if you want a hard copy! This may have changed but I that was only about 6 to 8 months ago with the regular CCNA!
