Does anyone know if finishing official CCNA preparation course (in CISCO net academy) gives students any benefits (of course, except the knowledge and practice) during the certificate examination ?

Mike

I don't think so. Unless your employer is paying for it, just get a couple of good books (cisco press icnd and Sybex 5th edition), a couple of routers off ebay if you can afford it (about $50 for 2501), if not go to

paskuda,

I have taught in a Cisco CCNA Network Academy for 7 years. I have helped a lot of people pass the CCNA and Network + exams.

Some of what I feel the bennifits are -

- 50% ro 60% discount vouchers on the 2 part CCNA exam or the whole CCNA exam.

- Access to the Cisco Network Academy web site with one of the best online curreculems filled with FLASH movies and sims.

- If you choose to list all your info - Cisco Systems has complete information about you such as address, phone, email etc. - I do not think that if I want a job in networking - that Cisco having all that info and the fact I completed their training is a bad thing !!!

- Access to the Cisco Academy Alumni site with free tools, forums, study information, job info and more.

- Interacting with other students with the same interests as yourself, this helps in staying motivated and understanding complicated labs. It also is a foundation for many study groups when moving onto CCNP or CCIE.

- Networking (job wise) I have had many Sr Network admins in my CCNA classes - any guesses where they fill job opennings? I have seen many students get the inside track on unadvertized jobs from fellow classmates. You would be surprised!!!

- If you have a good instructor and most are (not all) you have almost 24/7 access to them with email or a live person to discuss complex topics with. I have spent many hours in the lab with students setting up complex routing/switching labs.

I teach at a Community College where the classes are only $200 each, we have $75,000 worth or routers, switches, hubs racks, computers and servers for the students to use.

Not a bad deal since students have access to the router labs 6 days a week.

Cisco Academy classes are not for everyone, but I think most people can get a lot out of them.

I hope this helps!!

CiscoGuy33,
thanks for detailed info :)

Paskuda, I have several certs and self studied for all of them. I am also a network admin and been working in IT for 5 years now. I read the Cisco Press CCNA book twice. I was hoping to do it on my own. Most of the material made sense but there were a few gray areas, some things I didn't quite understand as good as I thought I should. So I checked on attending a CCNA Network Academy class at my Vo-Tech school. I am almost half way through and very pleased. This is very repatitious, not the quick way out. Everything you do is repeated so you remember how to do it when in the field. I also have to recommend, that is if you are wanting to learn it very well.

ccna bulshit ?????? not
thats why you have to pay
thats why everybody that can manage their way out of there know their way of subnetting Vlans router and switch configuration and learn from the best....
i was lucky my father had the money for my studies cause its xpensive but for the things you learn it is worth it
it is very difficult for someone to fully understand networking and if you dont have someone to xplain some things after you have studied the C.V is essential....
some said you had to work for a company to and worked on the routers or whatever so you can add some things to your knowledge i say not..
anyone can attend the classes and if he studies he can do it ...
in every class we attend we have to give exams in each module and a final if we want to continue and have achanse for the CCNA final exams i tell you its not easy but it makes confident in the real world from the experts of CISCO
instructors...
i have to admitt that some basics like subnettting on subnetting and vlans or Acls and wildcard masks have to b xplained thorouly
incase ofcourse that someone asks for a safe network and not just plug in the devices and make it work..
if you want to give to your employees a standard for you job including things noone would like documentation and worth your raise to the top
then CCNP and your mind like jelly......
