I will be starting the CCNA program in a few weeks in my area. It runs 6 weeks and includes books, lab, practice test and cert test. I have a small knowledge of IP and networking. The class meets 2 nights a week for 3hrs and 45 mins. Any workds of wisdom in taking this course of action? A lot of the posts I am reading are stating it is difficult. I don't contest that fact. I know it will be challenging. What areas do you think I will need to focus most of my efforts on? Pay close attention to? As I stated earlier, I have a basic knowledge. Plus, I have other resources available to me online through web courses (at no cost)that could could go hand in hand in gaining an understanding of the cisco networks. Thank you in advance!

Get your hands on those books you'r going to use ASAP.
Thats my advice, and have a look at the chapters in them,
then you get a pretty good idea what it will be all about.
Then start reading, cause the first part of the course will
be mostly teoretical and little or no hands on...
So be well prepared when the class starts, then it's easyer to stay on top as school goes on.
CCNA isn't that hard, it's just that it covers alot of stuff,
from basic binary calculation to routing protocols and WAN's.
It isn't so hard to understand, you just need a good memory to remember all the commands and timers and so on.
Here's were the hands on comes in!

As I have posted before, in order to pass the current CCNA examination (single exam option), you will need to know the following items:

Subnetting (if you can't do this with pencil and paper, don't bother signing up for the exam, you won't pass).

7 layer OSI model
3 layer network design model
Some product knowledge (where X fits into Y's network)
Some design knowledge (new for latest CCNA exam)
RIP, IGRP, EIGRP, OSPF (single area)
VLSM/CIDR/Some Route Summarization
VLANS, Switches (19xx) commands, etc
Frame Relay/ISDN
Access Control Lists (standard, extended, named)

You will receive upwards of 3 simulations on the exam, so you WILL have to know how to configure a router using the Command Line Interface.

Good Luck.
