I'm about to sit for the CCNA in a week or two and don't feel very comfortable with ISDN. Can anyone who has taken the CCNA recently say if there were any simulations on ISDN. Also, what is the number of simulation questions that I should expect to see on the exam?

bobsonbemoi,

ISDN is such a small part of all that you need to know for CCNA - most are just general questions. As I have said in other posts - know your show commands (ALL SHOW COMMANDS)and what the output looks like - this is how most troubleshooting is done.

You should see from 1 to 3 sims with most people getting 2.

Sims are very straight forward and represent simple tasks that someone in networking should be able to do in their sleep if they want to call themselves a CCNA.

If you have trouble on the sims - it is not a matter of learning questions but getting hands-on practice with real Cisco routers or at very least on a good sim.

Sims that have been discussed in this forum are simple switch configuration, setting up OSPF, some very simple troubleshooting to find an issue on a router.

I hope this helps!

Good luck on your test!

thanks CiscoGuy33,
ISDN and STP are maybe the only two areas where I feel a bit underprepared. I've had a lot of hands-on practice in the lab, so I feel I'll do well with setting up OSPF, swith and router configurations and the other things you mentioned.
I've taken CCNA 1 through 4, and am now using Testking's materials to get some question practice for the exam. I've taken Microsoft's 70-270 (and passed), Testking definetly helped there. Testking materials have quite a bit of wrong answers to their questions, but I like to think they come pretty close to what I should see on the exam (also, it makes me feel good about myself being able to say to myself "hey, that answer's definetly wrong".)
Am I going in the right direction studying from Testking's materials?

bobsonbemoi,

Since you have gone through Semesters 1-4 in the Cisco CCNA Network Academy and you have had hands-on lab work I feel better about your use of TestKings.

I do not like people with no background who just cram a TestKing and then think they are CCNAs or MCSEs etc. They fool no one and get caught up when they interview - most jobs in IT because of the "paper" MCSEs of the late 90s will have the tech guys put prospective employees through questions and in some cases tests to see what they really know.

As you said TestKings have lots of wrong answers so make sure you understand the concept of the question and do not take the answer they put as Gospel!!!

Question everything, we looked at a Test King in class and found typos and just wrong answers in so many questions. Be carefull with the IP addresses they use - found many typos there.

Just when you take the CCNA - READ the questions - do not jump to an answer because it looks like a question in TestKing - make sure you READ the question and READ ALL the answers. I talked to several Cisco people who worked on Cisco exams at Networkers several years ago - they all said it - they can buy TestKings also!!!!

Also I always liked the Sybex CCNA Study Guide as a contrast to the Cisco Press books - I always feel that book covers just what you need for the exam - you might if you can read the STP and ISDN sections.

Good luck!
