Hey guys,

i just finished reading the ccna intro and ccna icnd books and about to go into review and study mode before i take the ccna exam.

I'm wondering a couple of things. What router simulation is best to use and if you guys bought any extra materials to study such as transcender packages and the likes and if so which ones you recommend. I think i have the boson router.

And better yet any comments and tips on this exam from those who have taken it is appreciated.

Thanks.

helpdesk2005,

The Cisco Press/Boson CCNA Router Sim is about the best sim on the market today.

From
Cisco CCNA Network Simulator (CCNA Self-Study, 640-801) Boson Software
Cisco Press, Bk&CD edition, Published July 2004,
ISBN 1587201313

I would also read the Sybex CCNA Study Guide by Todd Lammle, I think this is one of the best books to pull it all together as to just what you need to know for the exam.

Also from Bookpool -

CCNA: Cisco Certified Network Associate Study Guide, 5th Edition (640-801)
Todd Lammle
Sybex, Paperback, 5th Bk&CD edition, Published January 2005, 675 pages, ISBN 0782143911

I also like the CBT Nugget series - they are video lectures on all different certifications including CCNA.

I hope this helps !!

hey E.A Broda yes that does help. I used to read the sybex books then 1 day i opened the wendell odom cisco one and found that it had more info and so i started to read the cisco press stuff since then. I have the old sybex one, the 2nd or 3rd edition i think, the one before they changed the ccna to be two exams - the intro and icnd. wondering if i should review the sybex one now or will that be overkill and waste of time.

Thanks for the tips on cbtnuggests and the router sim - have you used any sort of exam crams? transcender and stuff?

thanks for the help.

I must say you are right about the book by Wendell Odom, it is crammed full of material. I have read it twice.

helpdesk2005,
Note - CCNA is still one exam - they do have the 2 exam option but you can still take the 1 CCNA exam.

I always read at least 2 sources - such as Cisco Press and Sybex for any certification exam I take.

What I like about Sybex is that it tends to stick to just what is on the exam. So I read Cisco Press for ALL the details and then Sybex to get ready for the test.

I have used Transender for the CCNA 607 exam but did not use it when I recertified last summer on the CCNA 801 exam. I think any good testing software will help and most certifcation books have some with them.

One of my students gave me an old Test King, I could not believe how many wrong answers it had !! As I stressed to my students - it is more important to learn the stuff then to just pass an exam and be a "Paper CCNA".

I hope this helps.
