So the new book finally came in and as my CCNA expired last month I decided to recertify! at one month short of 57 I am wondering if this qualifies me for some award as idiot of the year or something? I have still bought the books and started reading tonight. Believe it or not last month I found a router in a skip (dumpster) at a construction (building renovation) site and it is a very current model running IOS 15.1 (I will post the model later as it is in my lab and I'm not). So I even find myself equipped for the new requirements.

I'm sure I will be posting more about my trials and tribulations as I progress, so I hope you will all join me on the rollercoaster ride of an old f@rt getting cerrtified

Hello Ozzie,

Look forward to hearing about your study progress and what luck finding a router in a dumpster.
Please keep us updated on your progress.

Take care

Ozzie,

Any updates? Any questions we might be able to help with to get you started in the right direction?

Well I took a long holiday over Christmas and the new year but as the better half (wife) is a sun worshipper and I am most certainly not (not exactly an oil painting if you know what I mean) I got about half way through the first book (sat in the shade keeping her company)!

Basically managed to skip a couple of chapters due to getting all the DIKTA questions right (still unsure whether I should still have read them) I stopped when I got to the point where I thought it would be best to access hardware at the same time. However I have just returned home to 44 degrees Celsius temperatures and the study isn't reverse cycle airconditioned (the evaporative system that serves the study won't handle temps that high) so things are on hold till the weather breaks!

Just a thought about people looking for free gear, the router I found in the dumpster is not that uncommon these days as more and more carriers deliver services via IP. It is worth watching for industrial units getting refitted for new tenants as the builders usually gut the buildings and toss out the existing comms gear as they don' know it's value and the carrier doesn't get a chance to recover it!
