Hi there,

I was advised to use Ccleaner and duly downloaded and installed it.

When it runs, It stays open for abut 5 seconds then switches off. If I choose, say, Analyse, the progress bar goes about a quarter of the way across, then it dies again.

Is this normal?

Never used that particular product, but try running it in safe mode in case some process is killing it then try renaming the EXE file to something different, like Ccleaner.exe to johnccleaner.exe

Sometimes malware keeps cleaning programs from running by name.

Open the program, click options, then click advanced, inside there you will see a box that says "close ccleaner after running" . Uncheck the box and see if it still does it

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies, apologies for not getting back to you.

I tried to get at the advanced options, but it shuts down just after I click Options.
Did it a couple of times so I knew where Advanced is, but I just can't get it to stay open long enough to see if "close ccleaner after running" is checked, let alone uncheck it!

I renamed the EXE file, but it wouldn't run at all then :-(

Maybe I should RTFM, or ask the Ccleaner helpdesk?

If its closing down before you get there, your infected.

Download avg anti spyware from the link below and delete anything it finds. Load in safe mode to run it

When it finishes download hijackthis from the link below.

Choose do a system scan and save a logfile. Post the logfile on here and do not attempt to fix anything unless you know what you are doing as not everything it shows is bad.

uninstall it from add/remove in control panel and then reinstall it, it will give you an option to install it to the recyle bin, say yes, once installed you cna right click the recycle bin and choose run ccleaner!
