Because i was so darn close, i'm going to take the test yet again. Wednesdays have been bad for me so i'm going to take it on the 28th before they have a chance to toss something else at me. So i'm going to start hitting it hard on WAN. I don't have any DCE/DTE cables but i do have CSU/DSU wic's and t1 cross over cables. I could be wrong but i believe i can do the same thing with the CSU/DSU's that i could do with the DCE/DTE cables as well it gives me the same options.

My goal before i go into that test is to master the art of the layer 2 protocols and "make it my B*&^@".

HDLC, PPP, FrameRelay and learn all i can about DLCI. I don't need this cert any more...I want this cert. Money nor cisco is going to hold me back this time. Everyone has told me to get more books, so this weekend i'm going to go out and get the 31days before your cisco exam as Mac has incisted that it's the bomb-dig-ity!

This weekend I am segmenting my network so that way all of my equipment is off of my home network and i'm just using it for testing. Going to use my 2611's two CSU/DSU wic's and make it my frame-relay switch for my 2610 and my 1720.
Break it, fix it, debug it, chap-it, ppp it, HDLC it, frame it and do everything i can think of over the next 2 1/2 weeks. So with that being said ill talk to you guys in the next two 1/2 weeks!

Bobby,

YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!

Glad you are getting the Cisco Press book Billy suggested!!!

Also glad to see you have the lab setup as a lab!!!!! Just like you said - break it and then config it all over again - when you got it setup - do all the "show" commands to see what they show - such as all the Frame Relay etc.

I would like to see you pick up a couple of WIC 1Ts and the DCE/DTE cables or 1 WIC 1T and a 2500 router, I have both WIC 2Ts and several DSU/CSU WICs with the crossover cable and they are a little different when you are setting them up!!! From the top of my head, I do not recall having to setup a clockrate on the DSU/CSU connections - I could be wrong but that is a major thing when setting up a serial interface with DCE/DTE cables - knowing which end gets the clockrate!!!

I know the sims were very much like the 2500 routers with 2 serial interfaces - the serial interface on a 2500 router is the same as a WIC 1T so a 2500 router or a 2600 with 2 WIC 1Ts was alot like the sim on the exams!!

You said your trouble area was WANs - just don't shoot yourself in the foot trying to make do with equipment that is not exactly like what you will be questioned on!!!

Just some thoughts!! Good luck!!

That is correct about the CSU/DSU's you don't have to setup the clocking, but you can. I have a 2502 but none of my other routers have serial connections. I have 4 of the CSU/DSU's wics so it is what it is. I'm about to start the teardown of my network and start the reconfig on my ip schema, I got the book yesterday at Fry's. When i pass this test i'm just going to be happy because i didn't spend the 5k on the boot camp and did it all on my own....like i said before i don't really need this cert, there is no job perk if i get it. I want it just so one day i can setup a large cisco setup and learn about why networks work they way they work......oh and the chicks....you get a cisco cert and the chicks come with it...right? :)

Bobby,

You said - "......oh and the chicks....you get a cisco cert and the chicks come with it...right? :) "

Yea, I just flash my Cisco cert cards in the bars and I can not keep them away :)

You'll get it this time Bobby.

And the chicks just melt when you tell those war stories too. The Great Spanning-tree loop, the duplicate IP mysteries, etc.

Or you could try the Epic Fantasy approach...

...And there we were.. Knee deep in fragmented packets with the DoS Zombie Horde rapidly approaching! If I could just reach the IPS Wand of Denial in time...

Oh man, I hope I don't start dreaming about this stuff! LoL

I can almost assure you....you will start to dream about it. But it's more like nightmares.

Just wait when simple math seems easier in binary too.

I do hate to count the times though I've woken up in the middle of the night and had that break through for what caused a problem or the fix for a problem.

That's awesome!!! I have had those epiphanies before myself.. But that was back when I was more into the programming side of things.. Would get stumped and out of nowhere ***wham*** the answer presents itself!

yep..same sort of thing happens to me all the time. I love telling the bosses about all the times I've come up with some great solutions while at the bar.

The best was the time a co-worker and I were out for drinks...started having ideas then grabbing napkins to start drawing things out.

Yeah, this one time when i was at home reading some tek-tips forum i got this idea that i should get a cisco cert and *poof* next thing i know i'm out a few c notes. :)

Hopefully next month ill have a better story than that one...i'm only 25 so i'm sure i've got a few more good years of storys just waiting to happen.. :)

LoL.. We will both have several more stories to tell Bobby!!
