I'd like some advice/guidance on how to go about the CCAI

I've contacted a network academy and hopefully they'll get back to me - But i want to check with someone who have been there / done it/ got the t shirt

Thanks in advance

CCAI is Cisco Certified Academy Instructor. First, you have to be associated with a Cisco Networking Academy. Second, you have to go through appropriate training in the course you want to teach for the CNAP. Most instructors are in the CCNA program. For CCNA instructors, you have to go through the four semesters of curriculum as a student with training from a Regional Academy instructor. This is often done with four separate one-week classes for each of the curriculum semesters. To complete the classes you have to take online exams and pass as well as hands-on skills exams for each semester. You also have to develop lesson plans and demonstrate teaching ability during the training. After that, you will be provisionally certified to teach the material but you still have to pass your CCNA exam. After you complete the CCNA exam you will be CCAI-CCNA. If you already have your CCNA, there is a fast-track program you can enter to get the CCAI-CCNA. That is a one-week program where you take the hands-on skills exams and demonstrate teaching competency. Very few instructors do the fast-track. If you want to teach other courses under the CNAP, you have to train and certify in those separately.

Those are the high points.

senk1s,

I think Cluebird covered it quite well but if you have any other questions just ask!

I did it just as Cluebird said for CCNA back in 1999 and then had to do both hands on and written exams again to recert about 2 years ago when the Cisco Academy had a major change to the curriculum.

thanks cluebird and ciscoguy for info about the process. that helps a lot.

I've recently completed the ccna exam (successfully :)
but i might prefer the 1 week class type

senk1s,

You will need to talk to a Cisco Academy that is looking for instructors, not all need instructors :-(

They will put you in touch with the Regional Academy - some Regionals charge $$$ for the training - some Local Academys will pay your way :) - some will not :-( All depends on how bad they need instructors!

I hope you are in an area that needs instructors - I have taught about 70 - 15 week classes over the past 8 years but things have slowed A LOT in the past 3-4 years!

Good luck!
