Dear All,
First I want to thank you all for this wonderfull helping site.

Could any one have a detailed overview for these three terms down here, I mean what are the deference between them and how could the switching happened in case of any shortage.

1- CC6 server
2- CC6 Standby server
3- CC6 Co-resident server

Thank you again,

Rafat Adly

1. CC6 Server is a bit vague... In a non-co-resident configuration, you need at least a CCMS (old term: SCCS), CCMA (old term: SWCP), CCSU (old term: SCCS fat client), and CCLM (new app for managing licenses)

As I recall, you must put the CCSU, CCLM and CCMS on your primary server. You would put CCMA on a separate server. This would be a fairly standard non-co-resident configuration. You can install CCSU on other servers, but there are some limitations, see the documentation for full details.

Presumably, you are asking just about the CCMS, CCLM and CCSU server... the CCMA server would be for administration only. You might do this if you were installing multiple CCMS servers at multiple sites and wanted to ensure that there was no local administration for each box so that you could administer web access on the single CCMA server.

2. CC6 Standby Server: This is a redundant CCMS server that replicates all data from the Active CC6 CCMS server. It is not a hot-standby server. In order to put the standby server in to operation, you must change IP addresses and computer name to whatever your active server is configured as. While the Active and Standby server are both running, the Standby server is copying all data from the Active server continuously.

3. Co-resident server: This is where you install CCMS, CCSU, CCLM and the administration component, CCMA, all on one server. For a single-site installation, this is pretty typical.

x11Tech is close, but not 100% correct. The stand-by can be a warm standby configuration. This would not require to change the IP or Name of the server. But is still not "Hot standby" due to human interaction is still required to stop replication and such.

1. CC6 Server (CCMS) will be the active (processing) server. Formerly know as SCCS or Symposium.
2. CC6 Standby is just that, a standby server that the database is replicated to. This configuration requires a CC6 Server, CC6 Standby Server and a Replication Server. Thats right, three servers to use this feature.
3. Co-Res refers to any Server that contains CCMS, CCMA (formerly SWC not SWCP), and possibly CCT all on one server. Having CCMS with CCLM (License Manager) is not considered a Co-Res installation.

Hope this helps!

thank you all 4 this valuable information but I get confused these points:

1- replicated, non-replicated
2- non hot standby server
Could any one told me more information about these.

Thank you again

hot-standby means that you don't have to do anything to the system for it to take over in the event that the primary system fails. The fact that it's standby means that it should not be processing, just standing by. It's like having a RAID 1 mirrored drive that you can plug in and unplug without powering the system down.

non-hot-standby means that the failover from the primary system to the redundant system requires manual intervention. This is like the RAID 1 mirror drive that requires a power-outage to replace.

Replication means that data is replicated (copied) from your active server to your standby server.

Non-replicated means that you don't have a standby server, and you are not copying data from your active server to a second server for redundancy.

PS, thanks TheWorkingMan for the corrections.
