Hi

I have had a question from a customer asking if they can switch off MCM over their network for obvious reasons... I know that the real-time displays/wallboards uses MCM and UCM, will the boards still work solely with UCM or do they need both to function correctly. I’ve looked on the server and there is an option to transmit in UCM only.
Has anyone tried this?

Thank you

Obvious reasons tend to be incorrect reasons, but that can be a separate conversation.

The only tool that requires multicast is Agent Desktop Display (ADD). All supervisor desktop functions including real-time can function without multicast.

Thank you effort1584. Haha - yes I agree but the powers that be would like to switch it off!

Seems to me that multicast was some kind of security issue, right? Or was it a bandwidth thing. Cant remember

they want to turn multicast off because of bandwidth.

Which is the opposite. Setup properly multicast uses less bandwidth. I think people confuse it with broadcast, which is completely different (again, when setup correctly). Then there is the Cisco "fee" for multicast to consider {others may charge for that feature but I have worked with many that don't).
