Hey everyone,

have you ever noticed that after a year or less if you use your computer alot windows is slow. Even 2000 which is very stable (compared to my experiences with 98). Even after running disk defrager, adaware and spyware removal programs it's still damn slow....well my 1 year old computer is at that point again and usualy I would just format to clean things up but I have a lot of data to save so i'm kinda lazy. Then I started to think about it, does anyone know why windows kinda craps out on you after about a year?

Must admit have not had this problem with 2k - have had installations running 2 and 3 years with no noticeable degradation in performance (but I've calmed down in terms of trying out software - probably only try out 10% of what I used to. This had big effect on win9x - which defintely does need regular reinstalls if used to any degree)

Are you sure its actually slowed down? (eg, have you seen/used a newer, faster machine - which you're comparing..)

Anyway - can't answer you - as would tend to disagree with the premise!

thanks for replying wolluf...

well actually it's more of a general windows question...and you sorta hit it when u said win9x needs regular installs. Would you by any chance know why it affected win9x so much? I'm just asking out of curiosity...

And yes it is slower. IExplorer is freezing on me for no good reason, startups r slower too and just in general windows is slower when running applications...(and I defrag once in a while)

Possible causes:
temp. files, temp. internet files, fragmented (of course), minor disk errors (scandisk)
and lots off installs as already mentioned by wolluf.
