i was just wondering, a few days ago, one or our computers in the office was being backed-up. the back-up was being done by our I.T. group through the LAN connection in another office. if i had tried to connect to the internet during the back-up, would it cause the hardisk to crash? we were already experiencing problems with the disk, like sometimes during boot up it would not be able to run the operating system but if you try again later it would work fine.

It is possible. Too many factors to be certain. i.e. if your harddrive was already bolixed and your attempt to connect caused an invalid write to the wrong place you could have caused the harddrive to no longer be usable. Or it could only have been a transient error when the copy software encountered a file in use that you had locked by attempting to get on the internet during the copy. Can't tell without a whole lot more info.

First and foremost. Don't use a system which is having problems, until the problems are fixed. Most problems are not self healing. The more you use the system, the more damage that is likely to occur. Time flies when you don't know what you're doing...
