I need some help finding the cause of frequent crashes in Access 2003. I have a fairly complicated application that has a front end running on each user’s PC and a back end running on a shared network drive. I only have about 10 users. Most of these users experience multiple crashes of the front end each day. They are usually filling in fields in a Form when Access crashes, saying it encountered a problem and needs to close. The one case I’ve been able to make it happen is to have 1 user in a Form bound to some data from a Table and then another user make changes or updates to that data. But I also believe this is not the cause of all crashes. Is there any error log Access produces that I can look at? Any other help or direction I can look?

Thanks,

Brian

Under Tools|Options|Advanced have a look at the settings for Default Open Mode and Record Locking. Open Mode should be "Shared" on all machines. Record locking could be "No Locks" or "Edited Record" depending on the likelihood of your users accessing the same data simultaneously. "Open Databases Using Record-Level Locking" should not be checked. Make sure the settings ae the same on all Front Ends and the Backend .mdb's.

Thanks genomon. My front end had Open Databases Using Record-Level Locking checked, and I suspect other do as well. I'll make those changes and see how it goes. Thanks.
