Hi All

Iam using BOXi Rel 1....I am new to categories...I created a webi report and stored it in a folder. Then went to that folder via InfoView and in properties directed that report to a category.

Then I went to the category and deleted the webi report...only to find out, that report has also been deleted from the folder. This does not seem right to me....is this set-up issue or across the border with BOXi?

No this doesn't sound correct.

Reports primarily live in folders. To see a folder and hence a report your user must have sufficient rights to do so.

Categories are a grouping mechanism that allow a user to view the reports they have rights to see in a different way to the folder hierarchy.

I suspect the user you have logged in as does not have sufficient rights to see the report.

Log in to the CMC as administrator, find the report and use the check user rights button to verify what rights your user has to that report.
 
Many Thanks for the above groggle.....I think I am more looking for the above information and more examples of where the webi report has been deleted from a category and still remained in the folder as this seems more realistic than what I have experienced and describled above.

I would love to test the theory above and others....currently seeking premision from the Administrator to dive into this area more......

Just to re-iterate...Iam referring to a WEBI report created by a user using a universe. The user has then saved this report in a folder they have rights to. Entered the folder via Infoview and clicked on that report 'Properties' and from there under 'Catergories' navigated to a path and put a tick so that, that Webi report is available in that category. Now the user has gone to that category and viewed that report but instead of 'Unticking' that report in the folder and properties, the user has deleted that webi report from category and hence this has caused a problem as this has deleted the report from the folder aswell. I dont think this is correct as the report should only be deleted from the catergory and not the folder.

Your user has deleted the report.

I just reperformed the steps for a WEBI report I created and followed the steps you described and the final step deletes the report in its entirety.

Firstly you should remove the users right to delete objects. (unless you really want them to be able to do this - there are two rights "delete objects" and "delete objects the user owns" under the Advanced tab)

Second there are Personal Categories and Corporate Categories. Normally an Administrator sets up Corporate Categories and assigns reports to these categories and assigns various Groups rights to these categories and users are allowed to establish their own Personal Categories. Users are not permitted to modify Corporate Categories just Personal Categories.



 
Groggle...many thanks for the above....the point I realise I was upset with was why the WEBI reports get deleted from the folder aswell....that just does not seem normal practise for me. I have had a look at a manual and this the case it deletes it across the board.
