we are thinking of installing some 5500 in the campus networks with the netflow feture cards and supervisor 3's installed. Anyone have any issues they have experiences with these devices? Any known problems we should look into getting fixes for before we begin our planning?

I have several of them and I think they are great. Code v3.2(3) seems very stable and just about all the features you could want. Avoid the Token-Ring ISL (TRISL.)You may also want to consider a 4000 (just announced) series if you plan to do a bunch of Gig.

I finished a major design/implentation last month using 20 Cat5500's and think they are great. If you are using the standard Cisco model (access layer, core layer, etc.) then there are some issues to be aware of, as with any solution. We laid in a gigabit backbone with load balancing redundancy to each client access closet as well as multiple core switches. During final testing we were able to prove failover in the core so that if any one core switch went lights out, the other cores would take up the load and users would not loose connectivity, except to devices on the core that died. While getting to the end was complicated, particularly the RSM's, the overall solution is pretty much a showcase for today's networking.

If you like the 5500 ...<br>
