got a 5000 series switch, when i attempt to console into it, the terminal emulator is blank, am using a straight through cable and the console default settings. any ideas why console doesn't work with this switch? Can cisco reset the engine board? Can anyone reset the engine board?

Maybe your RJ45 - DB9 adapter isn't wired correctly - try a different one. Or try a rollover cable with your current adapter.
The cat5000 catos switch did not use a standard console cable. Go here for wiring
