Catalyst 5000 Problems

Hi,

I have just bought a catalyst 5000 off ebay, and it all works great. However, when resetting it, I am now getting an error message:

init: extract() checksum failed
*** FLASH NOT VALID *** Download new image

However, if I leave the switch powered off for a day, it then boots fine.

Does anybody know how to stop this, or how I can upgrade the firmware (IOS?) to the latest version (I do not have access to the cisco site, nor the money to do this)

remove the _at_ and replace with @ of course.
