It's not really going to do anything much anyway, not even good for CCNA studies.

Burt

Burt I purchased this lab off of ebay
Item number: 140221654913

Take a look at that and tell em what you think.

Well, you would need an SDM capable router (837, 1720, 1721, 2600XM) for today's CCNA, and three Cat 2900 series (2924's will do, but preferably 2950's) for proper VTP/VLAN configurations. Also, at least one 2600 series with fast ethernet interfaces (2620/2621) is needed for router-on-a-stick and other subinterface implementations, as 100/full is needed for subinterface/trunking communication. I wish you would have checked out tek-tips cert forum...

before buying that---two of the 2500's and the 2924 switch are part of a decent lab---the rest you should sell. Keep the cables, and get a 2621XM, and two more Cat 2900 series (two more 2924's will do).

JonathanBKNY,

As Burt said - check out the Cisco Certification forum here at Tek Tips!

I have seen that auction on eBay - very fancy and they make it look good with the software and the questions etc. but like Burt said - you need a router that can do SDM and a router that can do Fast Ethernet - if you get a 2600xm you would have both.

At least you did not pay several thousands of dollars $$$$$ - have seen some labs of all 2500s and 1900 switches for huge amounts! You got the cables, software and switch - you can work the 2500s in with the right router as listed above!

Do some research - ask questions!

I would love to email these guys and ask how to do SDM and "router on a stick"/ VLAN trunking or IOS 12.4 with this equipment :)

Check out the Cisco Certification forum!!!

Okay

So I was able to aquire a 3640 router from a friend. I ran password recovery as well as changing the IOS. It has 3 Fast Ethernet ports as well as 3 Wic cards. Will this solve any of my problems?
So basically I need to pick up 3 switches.. Just let me know exactly what I need to pick up and a good place to get it..

Thanks

Jonathan

JonathanBKNY,

You have a good friend - Fast Ethernet Network Modules are not cheap :)

And you really only need 2 - the 2924 will work with what you are doing at the CCNA level.

You can find both 2924-XL switches and 2950 switches on eBay! Just start reading and asking questions or "Google" things you do not understand as you read an auction.

One of our posters has good luck with Craig's list - I have not!

Hope this helps!

Burt

I got a quote on the following from NETWORKHARDWARE.com

2 CATALYST 2950 24 PORT 10/100 SWITCH,

1 CISCO 2621 DUAL 10/100 ETHERNET MODULAR

$840.00 for all 3 units. and they warranty everything for 1 year.

I figure those units with my 3640 set up. plus my other swith. I should be ok. And then I can dump the 1900's

So here is the reply that I got from my ebay seller when I expressed that I was not totally satisfied with the selection of equiptment that I was provided with.

"The misunderstanding there is that the 1900s arent useful. Its true if you were studying on 3 1900s there would be much less benefit. What you need is to be able to view the results of the spanning tree elections thru and IOS device, in this case the 2924. The 1900s are fully capable of conducting spanning tree elections which makes them actually quite utilic devices. You will see the results of those elections in the 2900 thru the IOS. Plenty of
simulation for your CCNA. Hope that helps, we'll get you some extra memory too."

Any way this is the extra equiptment that I was able to aquire, So now I should be fine.

1 CISCO CATALYST 3560 24 10/100 + 2SFP (BSTK)
1 CISCO CATALYST 2950SX 24-PORT (BSTK)

Plus one 2621xm, as that what everyone seemed to reccomend.

Thanks to all for the reccomendations.

Ok guys

I was able to delete the original flash file on my switch but I need some help here because I think I accidently deleted the config.text file. I was able to load the new IOS on the switch via xmodem. Is there anyway i can creat a config.text file and transfer it via xmodem?

File "xmodem:c2900xl-c3h2s-mz.120-5.WC13.bin" successfully copied to "flash:c290
0xl-c3h2s-mz.120-5.WC13.bin"
switch: dir flash:
Directory of flash:/

6 -rwx 1811200 <date> c2900xl-c3h2s-mz.120-5.WC13.bin
2 dr-- 10176 <date> html

Thanks
