I am studying for the Switching exam. I have a catalyst 1900 switch. It has 24 ports, so I'm presuming that makes it a 1924. I'm running the 5.34 version of the firmware. When I log onto the switch, I can't see the [K] in the menu that lets me configure it using the command line.

I was told I'd have to upgrade the firmware. I downloaded the most recent firmware and a TFTP server. In fact I ended up downloading a couple of TFTP servers because I can't get the switch to take the upgrade. It just times out in the delivery.

Someone else told me that the firmware can't be upgraded on these switches past 5.37, but I'm kind of skeptical. Still, if that's the case, I need to know. I also need to know how to get the firmware to install.

Search the Cisco switch forum for all the details but the short version is if you have the old version of the switch, 9 pin D style connector for the console, 5.37 is the end game. The newer 1900 which is half the size and uses the RJ45 console port, you can go to 9. something for the code.

Phooey.

Well, thanks for clearing that up anyway.
