what i would like to do:

I have a lot of CDs with PDFs on them that i would like to catalog/index with acrobat 5.0 (using the pdf file metadata). basically, i create and save an index per CD. then, copy the index file (and index folder)to a shared directory on the server so that anyone else in the company can do a search on the indexes (of all the CDs) using Reader (w/search).

this is almost like creating an archive database. the index files are named using the CD number, e.g., CD001.pdx is the catalog for CD number 001.

after creating and copying the index to the server and trying to search…

when searching:
when there are multiple "hits" to my search criteria, a "search results" dialog box pops up and lists the found files by Title, with 2 buttons at the bottom: view and info.

of course, with the pdfs on CD, using the view button generates the error: "document can't be found...". using the info shows the metadata info and the index file name (which is what CD the pdf is stored on.) This is fine since these CDs are more for archive purposes, and people can go get the CD to see the image. There are just too many pdfs to store on the server. plus, the CD drive letter on the local workstation tend to vary.

the problem:
when there is only 1 hit to my search criteria, an error message appears: "This document could not be found: it has either been moved, deleted, or you don't have permission to view it." The search results dialog box does not appear. it seems catalog wants to go straight to displaying the found pdf immediately. since the pdf file is on CD somewhere, error message is generated.

1) is there anyway of triggering having the search results dialog box always appear after a search.

2) is there a better method to this madness (not sure how auto attaching indexes work yet)…

3) just a thought, can an index of multiple indexes be created?
