I have a Cat6500 with Sup2's on 12.1 code. It has been a while so I was wandering if someone could explain to me the way in which this device routes Vlans. Looking at the IOS I do not see the classic routing setup and since it has been a long time since I have touched one I do not if you have to go into the routing card on the Sup2 to enable it to route. I am in the process of looking for a book but I thought I would ask anyway.

Thanks

If its running 12.1 code most likely its a hybrid box running catos on the layer 2 side and IOS on the msfc (l3) side . On the L3 side you create layer 3 svi's . Then on the catos side you put ports into that vlan for your routing interface. Normally you telnet into the catos side to configure. Then you can session up to slot 16 the msfc and configure the L3 side.

Thanks for the input. It looks like I am running IOS on the switch side and I am unable to session to the msfc card. My understanding is the switch was recently updated with new IOS. i can boot the switch from rommon via the boot cmd. Code level 12.1(27b)E4. Here's what I see after issuing the boot cmd.

Since I have not worked with Cat 6500 in years a lot has changed. Trying to remember things form all those years ago. Any help here would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks,
