Can somebody help me with the following questions

What is the max distance for CAt5e
What max speed doed 5E run on
What is the difference between 5 and 5E
Can switches that are only CAT5 certified run also 5E

>What is the max distance for CAT5e?
100m same as CAT5.

>What max speed doed 5E run on?
Same as CAT5.

>What is the difference between 5 and 5E?
CAT5 Enchanced is puter under more strenuous testing for quality.

>Can switches that are only CAT5 certified run also 5E?
Yes.

the origonal reason for cat5e was they found some issues running full duplex at 100 Mbps on cat 5, cat5e reduces the error rate for 100/full. Much newer cat5e is also rated at 350 mhz, looking forward to 1000baseT I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Probably the most noticable difference may be that bandwidth, and the fact that all four pairs are tested in 5E certification.

For Cat5 to pass a certification test it must send data down one pair and compare (listen) on all three other pairs. Formerly we only had to send data down one pair on Cat5 and listen on the other data pair, and get favorable results.

While the bandwidth for Cat5e may be up to 350 Mhz, it is only required to be tested at 100 Mhz for certification. The extra headroom there is what makes the cable more appealing for new technologies as they come along.

Also, according to the new revisions of the EIA/TIA standards, Cat5 is not longer an accepted media for new data installations, Cat5e is the minimum.

Good Luck

Oh, also you might go back in this forum and look for similar questions, we seem to go through and answer this one every couple weeks, so there will be more descriptive answers already in the forum. There is a handy tab at the top that lets you do a keyword search in this forum. If you put CAT5e or just CAT5 in there you will get a list of posts that discuss those things, that should probably save you some time.
