I want to run some speaker wire to my back yard. While I'm pulling wire, I thought I would add some cat5e for my family room. I plan to run them through my attic and then through conduit down the outside wall. Can I run cat5e and 16ga 4 conductor speaker wire together in the same conduit?

As long as it is all low voltage wire you are running, yes you can run them in the same conduit. Put in a pull string, you will thank yourself in a few years.

Hmmmmm... the longer then run -- the more interference you're liable to encounter. I might use shielded speaker wire just to be safe.

I am not sure of your location, but I am in Louisiana. If you put it in the ground here, IT WILL GET WET. You may want to consider a outdoor rated Cat5 cable if this is something you have to worry about.
