I have a site that I will be deploying a Cisco phone system. They currently have Cat5. Do you think its necessary to go to Cat5e? It seems that the biggest difference between the two is Cat5e can go up to gig speed!? Does anyone have any experience with cat5 and Cisco phone systems?

Thanks
Jacob

SO I think you are pointing out is that the phones only run @ 10mb anyhow?

is this a big problem? would you upgrade to 5e? the problem is the cost to rewire the plant would most likly turn them away from getting a new system.

besides that it has better noise immunity and better crosstalk rejection

I mean you are saying that the phones will even run on a Cat3 network?

yes - for the second one. (i cudnt find anything about cabling requirements/ recommendations besides this)

7912 is not supported on Cat3 - ...

So the type of phones, other devices ... should be considered. Probably it is good to get the cables certified for performance quality - before deciding to go forward

This site I will have around 20 7941s and maybe 6 7961s. Yes we plan to have the lines certified.. Thanks for the replies!
