is there any difference between the two? What should i use, considereing how i can get 1000ft of cat5e for $54.00?

CAT5e supports higher bandwidth. I don't exactly remember, but I believe CAT5e goes up to 155 Mbps. But don't quote me on that. Hope that helps.

my question is if i can use a standard 10/100 NIC, and a 10/100 hub. Do i have to use a special config. of hardware?

Should work without any problems, just the quality of the cable that is different.
