The distance for Horizontal "Voice" UTP Cat3 is stated as 2,600+ feet from Main to Horizontal cross-connect.Does this hold true when there are splice points,as in my case, lightening protectors separating the inside feeder from the OSP.Or does the lightening protectors then become Intermediate cross-connects.There are two buildings connected in this case, with a total run length of around 1,800 feet, sharing a huge Siemen phone switch.I question this because we recently connected a phone(digital Siemen Opti-set) in the remote building, and it was up for about a week. The person utilizing it said it just went dead.We reactivated and deactivated the port to know avail. We also had a phone connected during the cabling phase for about 4 months previous to this with know problems. This was a Rolm system. Also digital.Thanks.

IF IT WAS WORKING FOR A WEEK IT SHOULD HAVE WORKED FOREVER, SEE IF THERE WAS CABLE WORK DONE. DIGITAL PHONES DON'T LIKE WHAT THEY CALL BRIDGE TAP. THERE MAY HAVE BEEN A PIECE OF CABLE ADDED GOING TO ANOTHER LOCATION.

OLD ROLMEN WORKING ON NORTELS

Yeah..I agree. There are contractors in there remodeling.A visual inspection may not be enough.I will probably re-test the 100pr again. The weird part is I toned out that pair when this happened ,and there was strong tone on that pair.Doesnt seem it was damaged.Thanks.

A strong tone doesn't mean there isn't a short or ground somewhere waiting to bite you. [smile]
