What should a cat5e certification include? Do all the lines need to be terminated and connected? An install was done at my home and I think they are feeding me a line about what is necessary for a cat5e certification. sj

All pairs must be terminated. There are devices that certify Cat5 cables, ask for a printed report from their device if you have questions on the validity of their claims.

These are the tests that are associated with 5E testing.

All Category 5E cables shall be tested for

• Wiremap
• Length
• Attenuation
• NEXT ( new limits )
• PS-NEXT ( power sum next )
• ELFEXT ( equal level far-end crosstalk )
• PS-ELFEXT ( power sum ELFEXT )
• Propagation delay
• Delay skew
• Return Loss

Are you sure they aren't just telling you that the cable they are using is certified for cat5e?
That can be a true statement without anything being terminated.
What you want is for the completed installation to BE cat5e cetified. Not jsut put together with cetified parts.
