Linksys router tech info says 4 conductors are necessary (1,2,3,6)to connect router to PC. If I use cat 5 cable, can I use the other two pairs for telephone lines?

You can if you want to run at 10mbs. If you run at 100mbs you might get interference in the data lines from the phones. You also might hear noise fron the data in the phone. There were some lan cards designed with a jack on the back just for this.

You will come out way ahead if you will use 1 4pr cat5 or better, for each connection you need. This "WILL" keep you from having to do this wiring again at some point and time, unless the grade of cable used is upgraded. It will also keep your cable plant within the standards that have been put in place for Cat5 and higher and keep you from having to move the phones again later.
