cat 5 vs. cat 6

probably an easy answer...

can I use cat 6 in place of cat 5e? why or why not? I just heard of cat 6 recently (when I mistakenly ordered the wrong kind of cable!). I'm hoping I can still use it...

 
Sure you can if you also use the correct connectors. There is some difference in the guage of the wire and the jacket. Cat6 is the next step in the evolution.
 
ok. as long as it'll still fit into the rj45 jacks on each end and the wires aren't in a different order then it sounds good. Thanks.
