Hi All,

I am running Cat 5 cable from a pc to a hub. For some reason I am not getting a connection. I have used a straight through cable, going (W,Y,W,G,W,Bl,W,Br).

I have checked the pin connections and everything. I am running it about 100 feet, so I don't think I am exceeding length.

Any other tips you can think of?

TIA for any help. mot98..[peace]

The pins should be (1 through 8)
white/orange
orange
white/green
blue
white/blue
green
white/brown
brown

Your setup will work over very short distances but not 100 feet!

A problem with your PC??? Never...

Thanks gavrc,

Once I figured out that my colour coding was off, it worked like a charm. It is working fine at 100 feet, so I am not sure what the limitation is??

Thanks again... mot98..[peace]

What he meant is that your original incorrect pinning will work over short distances. Once you have the pairs correctly pinned, assuming it's a clean run and well terminiated you should be able to get to 300 feet.
